A Toast to the Justice First Fellows

A Toast to the Justice First Fellows

On Monday 8th February 2016, the Foundation celebrated the appointment of our second cohort of Justice First Fellows.

2015 Fellows

Seventy guests joined us for dinner at The Law Society including 17 Fellows (the 18th was sadly home-bound with a broken ankle) along with representatives of their host organisations, co-funders and other friends of the scheme. TLEF Governor Tim Dutton CBE QC, in a speech celebrating the Fellows, noted that “it cannot be the function of TLEF to act as the State’s proxy for Legal Aid… but nor can we ignore the risk that lawyers of high talent, a sense of social justice, and moral commitment may not be able to train in the areas of social welfare law where help is so desperately needed and on such a wide scale.” You can read the full speech here.
